It’s Driving Season!

Teamdonk #2’s second adventure was a complete success!  We enjoyed a warm sunny drive again in the mid seventies, the Canola has blossomed into a brilliant yellow, the deep green of the fall wheat is in a serious growing stage, the birds are happily singing and the farmers are in the fields trying to get ready for spring planting.  For Teamdonk One (Luc and Galahad) and Two (Merlin and Hank) it’s the beginning of Driving Season and I could not be happier!

I fussed with the boys harness for a couple of hours before we headed out.  Merlin’s breeching needed some serious readjusting.  I added the check lines to both harnesses and they worked perfectly.  Cleaned out their hooves, hitched and away we went.  Hank stepped up again today right from the start; this is really becoming a nice driving team, they are close to 30 hitches now.  On the way home I wondered if Merlin was going to be able to keep up with him, what a difference a year makes.  We stopped to visit with a neighbor which is always a good opportunity to practice standing.  Both boys need more work on this.  But they did well, even with traffic and farm equipment making dust in the fields.

Today’s Stats:  120 driving minutes, 4 miles at a 3.0 average walk and a four mile an hour walk home downhill.  Today’s photo is from last Sunday as we were coming up the lane, click on it for a larger view.
